Better than Compromise - Episode 1: What’s wrong with compromise?  What’s wrong with compromise? Other than it is less than either of us was hoping for and it seldom happens? The obvious option doesn’t look any better: win/lose has never been the way forward. Just watch how it plays out in politics. As individuals and as society we need to explore what is better than compromise and what it takes to get there. Join us in imagining this calmer, counter-cultural vision as the election rages around us.

Something to consider:

How are you feeling as the election approaches? How has the pandemic, racial unrest and the rest impacted ‘how you are?’ What emotions do you connect with this? Where do you feel this physically? Has this changed your ability to interact with others?

The Bible is built on a vision of Better Than Compromise. Is ‘the fullness of God’ here pointing at Better Than Compromise?

I pray that you may have the power to comprehend the height, width, depth and length… of the fullness of God. Ephesians 3.18-19

Something to ponder: Where have you seen Better Than Compromise happening? In your life or in the world around you?

Better Than Compromise starts with valuing the other person. Question: Is there a difference between valuing someone whom you deeply disagree with and accepting or condoning their beliefs or behavior? How could you practice that?

Consider this quote from the podcast and react to it:

“The problem isn’t politics, it’s us. Not you or me, individually, but us corporately. And while it isn’t my fault and it isn’t your fault, we are the people who can begin to change it. We have a vision that life could be better. A vision that says we could be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.”
