Creatures of Habitude
There are over 8 million different creatures in the world, so it isn't surprising that we bump up against some challenges as we try and live together on this planet. But...what if we could create habitudes or ways of interacting with one another that celebrate our differences and work towards equity in the ways we lived. It takes creating new habits and the courage to imagine and practice those new ways of being to become Creatures of Habitude! Join us this November during the message time of the gathering as we invite kids to head into the gym to play - create - and grow together.
Week 1 (November 7): There is an old African proverb that says if you want to go fast go alone, but if you want to go far, go together. We all get into patterns of thinking that our way is best or at least easiest, but how much are we missing when we leave other ideas out? Who have we skipped over because we are trying so hard to do things on our own? Join us this week as we teach each other to collaborate and to think collectively. I wonder...how far WE can go?
Week 2 (November 14): Rush, rush, rush! Go here, go there! We're late! Are you done yet? Sounds pretty familiar, doesn't it?! This sense of urgency we have disconnects us from each other, ourselves, and all living things! We even disconnect from our need to breathe, pause, and reflect and that keeps us from showing up with our best selves in tricky situations. Join us as we practice slowing down and get better at noticing what urgency feels like in our bodies.
Week 3 (November 21): Remember when social media only had two ways of responding to what people were thinking and talking about? Thumbs up or thumbs down. It is so easy to fall into the trap of either-or thinking, creating judgements of either good or bad. Life is so much more complex than that. It is filled with a whole spectrum of grays! What if we learned to slow down and consider more than two ways...maybe 3 or 4 or even 8!
