Shades of Green

Money gets weird fast; it’s full of stress, silence, and a thousand unspoken rules. “Shades of Green” is our chance to rethink all that. Each week, we’ll try on a new lens: ownership, what’s “enough,” and generosity. And we want to talk about it without guilt or pressure, just space to understand our money a little better and use it in ways that actually fit who we want to be.

January 4 | Whose Green is it Anyway? “What’s mine is mine,” right? Money, that is. You earned it, it belongs to you, and you get to decide what to do with it. That’s the story most of us have inherited… and it makes sense. But that particular shade of green has also gotten us into trouble for, oh… a couple thousand years. In week one, we’ll step back and ask a more honest question: what do we really own, and what are we simply holding for a while? Changing the lens might just change how we live.

January 11 | CareIQ in a Cruel Moment. So… how much is enough, anyway? You might know exactly what you’re doing with your money, Some weeks ask more of us than answers can hold. Rather than continuing our planned “Shades of Green” series, for today we’re creating space to be together; to listen, reflect, and share care. Using Fabric’s CareIQ tools, we’ll practice the kind of presence that helps sustain us when things are hard, and gather resources and wisdom for the work of loving our neighbors well.

January 18 | Green is Meant to Circulate - Generosity… in this economy?! Money might make things weird, but it also can make things beautiful. In our final week, we’ll talk about generosity: what it is, what it isn’t, and what it actually does to us (turns out, there’s fascinating brain chemistry involved). In a world that treats generosity as foolish or unrealistic, we’ll explore how this particular shade of green might be the one that frees us— not just spiritually, but practically, too.

January 24 (Saturday Workshop) | Fabric Presents: "Money - Let's Make it Less Weird" - Most of the time, when a church talks about money, it’s to ask for some. That’s not what this is. We believe money conversations need a third-space— room to be honest, curious, and supported without pressure or shame. That’s why Fabric is hosting a free half-day workshop at the Center of Belonging on Saturday, January 24. Young people (ages 14+) are encouraged to participate as well, as we have an additional facilitator for teenage participants.

Together, we’ll unearth the money stories we’ve inherited, get clearer about our “money scripts,” and set realistic financial goals— whether you’re just starting out, living paycheck to paycheck, or figuring out what to do with a surplus. No matter where you fall on the financial spectrum, whether you're single, partnered, and/or parenting, or how equipped you feel for the conversation, it’s never too early (or too late) to look at money with fresh eyes.

Join Shannon Doyle from the LSS Financial Counseling team for this interactive, practical workshop from 9:30–12:00 on January 24 at the Center of Belonging. Learn more and register HERE.
