A book & event to connect with!
/Immigrants. Refugees. The are lots of headlines, tweets, history books, opinions, policy pieces and lobbying efforts featuring those two words. But I can count on one hand the first hand stories I know told by immigrants and refugees themselves. Even from my own family. I really value this accessible, powerful, and deeply personal collection from an org I admire.
Our Stories Carried Us Here is a new Graphic Novel anthology from Green Card Voices. A Stanford scientist, deaf student, indigenous activist, Black entrepreneur, DACA student, a high school video game and soccer-lover, a college kid and “plant dad of four” and more - all immigrants and refugees - recount their journeys from their home countries to the U.S.
Spend time with these stories to expand your awareness, heart and vision of what is needed (and possible!). Let them inspire you to learn more and maybe even share your own stories of home, grief, joy, trauma, healing, calling, struggle, family…
In the intro to our Stirrings conversation, Greg Meyer reminded us that conventional thought gets in the way of hearing the important stirrings in and around us. Listening to stories from real people with different experiences from yours is a great way to disrupt the inertia and make room to hear the stirrings!
