We Interrupt this Program

In this season before Christmas, we longed for a tangible way to interrupt the rolling news inside and out of not enough energy, time, health, money, justice, ideas, cooperation, kindness (you name it). The Pause Box is a ritual to interrupt those messages with news of the more-than-enough, no-matter-what Love baked into the world; news that is all too easy to overlook, dismiss and forget.

Here’s how it has evolved at my house so far. We are having fun with it, adding things we like, doing it our own way, feeling a little awkward at times. But that’s part of the point, right? Letting the message of Love take up space and interrupt all the other…stuff.

Part of what makes it work and feel so connective is doing it with Fabric!

You have all you need without the box, of course. But we hope this tangible shared ritual helps you make space for the interruption of Love that is born into and through this world.

I don’t have a box. You don’t need just the right supplies or even questions - the important part is making a physical space and time to pause. And - you can pick up a box on Sundays (or email us to get you one).

I don’t have anyone to do this with. You can try this with a friend, family or Fabric Group over zoom. But in your very own company is something good and powerful to try no matter who you are. A way to love and honor yourself and how you are connected to God and others - including all of us doing these pauses as Fabric this season.

I don’t have time. Need you say more? Take 1 minute to lay out a dish towel, a blank piece of paper or whatever you have handy on a surface in front of you to claim just a bit of space. Take a deep breath and look around to notice one or two things that say “I love you.”
